daily 5 {chapter 1 - posters}

Hello, Teacher Friends! I hope you are enjoying The Daily 5 book! I know I am! :)
If you want to get your own copy and join in on the fun, click {here}!

This book has seriously lifted a HUGE weight off my shoulders. Last year {my second year of teaching} I did guided reading/my own twist on group reading with my students every day. From my students' perspective, it was successful, because they became strong readers. From my perspective, it was a FLOP. I came to hate reading time preparing everything {which I absolutely loved my first year} and I had a MAJOR HEADACHE at 10:15, every morning, when group reading time was finished. {Headaches don't make the nicest teachers!} To pull of my reading groups, I had to spend HOURS of my planning time {to keep everyone busy and actively engaged}. Basically, I was working HARDER not smarter.  And that my friends, is why I am so in love with The Daily 5. With The Daily 5 book, I will enjoy reading time again, because this book will help me work SMARTER not harder. I love the idea that students are monitoring their own progress, while I get to do important teacher stuff! ;) I also love the 5 different areas that they focus on and I made some of my own classroom posters to go along!

    BTW... did I ever thank you for adding me to your blog roll? If not, thank you thank you!! Your blog is always on the list for my top traffic sources and it just makes my day :) You're the best!!

  7. Well said, Lindsey! I had been teaching about 6 or 7 years before the 'Daily 5' was published. I scooped it up right away and after reading Chapter 1, I was sold. I have been using this system for 6 years and I LOVE it! I only wish that it had been around when I first started teaching. I started using the program when no one in my school would even give it second look. My reading coach even snubbed me! If only they had listened...
    Love your posters!
    Thanks for sharing,

  10. I started using The Daily Five last year, and you are absolutely right...it lets you work smarter not harder. The students are only working on things that will really help them be better readers and writers, and it does not require making different centers all the time. I love the posters that you made. Thank you so much for sharing them. I just LOVE everything you make! :)

  20. The world of Blogs is relatively new to me; sad but true. My husband won't be thrilled that I've found another way to spend time on the computer, but he will be thrilled at the same time to know that it isn't expensive!! Thanks for taking your time to help all of us out and for sharing some super freebies.

  21. I wish I would have known that you were posting this about The Daily 5 sooner (my fault, I've neglected to keep up with reading your blog), but I'm excited to catch up now, as I plan on using it in my classroom this year, too!

    Thank you so much for sharing your creativity!!!

    (This may be my first time commenting on your blog, by the way. I found you several months ago and I just love all of your work. You're such a blessing to education!)
